As a cat lover, I have been obsessed with the art of Louis Wain for years. My interest in this 19th century English artist only intensified when I learned that he dealt with mental illness for much of his life, and that it likely played a factor in his art. Wain's drawings and paintings are just so different from anything you see from his contemporaries. His cats' eyes penetrate the viewer's gaze, transfixing, hypnotizing, inviting the viewer to step through the looking glass and enter Wain's disturbingly cute world.

Sure, we all know the famous sculpture The Thinker and the artist Auguste Rodin, but how many of you are familiar with Camille Claudel? On the anniversary of her 155th birthday, today's Google Doodle celebrates the French sculptress. A longtime collaborator with Rodin, Claudel is considered a pioneer as a woman who defied convention by working with media such as bronze casting at a time when watercolors, oils, and decorative arts were considered more appropriate for the fairer sex.
